New law in effect for out-of-state driver's license classes

(The Center Square) — Driver's license classes in five states have been singled out as no longer valid in Florida, in accordance with legislation that took effect Saturday.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, a 2024 presidential candidate, said Wednesday the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has published a list of classes by state which are invalid because people living in or entering the country illegally can obtain them in Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island, Vermont or Hawaii.

Teamsters Union ousted by employees of one Hialeah business

(The Center Square) – XPO Logistics employees ousted the Teamsters Union from their workplace after colleagues in other states also successfully ousted them with free legal assistance from the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation.

In Hialeah, Florida, XPO Logistics employees, led by Martin Garcia, successfully voted to oust Teamsters Local 769 union officials from their workplace.

Expert: Malaria spread to Florida unlikely Now, but future risks loom

In a recent health advisory, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) disclosed that five people have been infected with malaria in the United States within the last two months.

These cases, four from Florida and one from Texas, mark the first instances of locally acquired malaria in the nation since 2003.

The budget allocates salary increases for correctional officers, enhancements to officer safety, and additional mechanisms to combat the fentanyl crisis stemming from the southern border.

Florida leads 22 states with nearly 303,000 losing their Medicaid coverage

(The Center Square) — According to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation, more than one million people have lost their Medicaid coverage nationally and Florida had the most who are no longer eligible for benefits.

According to data from KFF — a nonprofit that focuses on health policy and conducts its research and polling — at least 1.35 million people, spread across 22 states, lost their Medicaid coverage as of Tuesday based on the latest available data.

Florida's electricity bills rank among nation's lowest

(The Center Square) — The most recent data from the Federal Energy Information Administration places Florida’s electricity rates at the lower end of the scale nationwide.

For residential consumers in March 2023, the price per kilowatt hour for electricity in Florida was 14.76 cents. In March 2022, prices sat at 13.50 cents — an increase of 1.26 cents over the year.
