See big bass catches at the TrophyCatch Hall of Fame Ceremony

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Bass Pro Shops invite you to the TrophyCatch program’s annual Hall of Fame Ceremony. This event recognizes anglers who documented and submitted catches of bass 13 pounds or heavier that were approved during the popular citizen-science program’s 11th season, which ran from Oct. 1, 2022 to Sept. 30, 2023.

FWC’s School Fishing Club Program funds 50 Florida schools to support outdoor education

FWCThe Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) School Fishing Club Program funding recipients have been selected for the 2023-24 school year. After undergoing a comprehensive review, 50 schools were awarded the Florida R3 Fishing Grant.

Applications for limited recreational harvest of goliath grouper in state waters open Oct. 1

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will begin accepting applications for the second annual limited harvest season of goliath grouper in state waters. Those interested can apply anytime from Oct. 1-15, 2023, for the upcoming 2024 season. 

FWC seeks public input on new information for snook regional management at Aug. 31 virtual workshop

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking public input on new recommendations for snook recreational fishing regulations. The FWC is adopting a holistic management approach for snook that includes a review of several environmental and human factors such as habitat, fishing effort and stakeholder feedback to evaluate the fishery at a more local scale.

Newly released data and recent public feedback suggest additional regulation changes may be warranted. 

Extended Florida red snapper season starts on Labor Day weekend

(The Center Square) — An extension of Florida’s red snapper season begins Labor Day weekend and could be one of the longest since the state took over management of the tasty game fish.

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Aug. 11 that the red snapper season would be extended by 17 days to 87 days, according to a statement released by the governor’s office.

Florida’s fall red snapper season runs every Friday through Sunday through the months of September, October and November, with open days on Labor Day (Sept. 4) and Thanksgiving (Nov. 23).

FWC recognizes Pasco County landowner for wildlife conservation efforts

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) recently recognized the outstanding wildlife habitat management efforts of private landowner Jake English of Pasco County.

The recognition is part of the Wildlife Habitat Recognition Program, meant to formally honor exemplary landowners by gifting them with a sign to display on their property and a certificate recognizing their habitat conservation efforts.
