FHP, Homeland Security have enforcement pact in Florida

(The Center Square) – Florida Highway Patrol and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have an agreement to carry out immigration enforcement. 

The agreement, said Gov. Ron DeSantis, will allow state law enforcement officials to execute the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement's 287(g) program to deport people who have illegally entered or are living in the country.

Florida is the second state – Texas was first – to reach an agreement with the federal government under President Donald Trump's administration.

Water District to Host Medard Reservoir Open House and Community Meeting

The Southwest Water Management District (District) will host an open house and community meeting regarding the Medard Reservoir Thursday, Jan. 23, at Durant High School located at 4748 Cougar Path in Plant City.

The open house portion of the meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a presentation from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

DeSantis to call for a special session related to potential Trump deportations

(The Center Square) — Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday he is calling a special session of the Legislature to require local governments to enforce potential deportations of undocumented migrants if called for by President-elect Donald Trump.

The special session, starting Jan. 27, will also deal with the state's ballot initiative process, hurricane relief, election integrity and condominium regulation, among other issues. Trump has pledged a number of actions from the first day forward; his inauguration is Jan. 20.
